I have three of these at home now. My wife is allergic to all kinds of "things". I am happy with the performance of this device and it has helped reduce allergy issues in my home BUT I had a downside. The device works fine. Noise levels are acceptable at higher speeds and very quiet at lower speeds. I have one unit in my family room, one in the loft and one in the master bedroom. I've been using the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze for almost twenty years (yes, 20 YEARS). It had UV radiation but wasn't well protected so I had to keep the unit out of the reach of children. The wife also had problems when the device produced too much ozone (in the master bedroom). These towers offer good UV protection without ozone. The device is well designed and well made, but I had a defect with UV radiation. The very first plant burned out its UV lamp in less than a week. I sent the unit back with no problems and got a replacement. I decided to let it run for a while to see if the second device had similar issues, but it didn't. So now I have three. **UPDATE: It's been 2-3 months and I have 2 more units with burned out UV bulbs. These bulbs cost $31 each. With these lightbulbs burning out at this rate, I can't afford to keep these devices around. Also forget the six-month life cycle of a HEPA filter. Mine is completely clogged after 2-3 months. Not much because it shows how well the filters are working in my house, but these filters are starting to look like a very expensive maintenance item. So keep in mind that these devices will cost you $$$ in the long run. Downgraded rating due to these issues. *** LATEST UPDATE: I finally figured out the problem with the UV lamp. Two of my units had UV bulbs constantly blowing out (I almost gave up on that thing) BUT 1 never had its bulb burn out. I began to wonder why and discovered that this particular device was plugged into a surge-protected power supply. I decided to add surge protection to my other two devices, so I purchased and installed Revain's Minuteman MMS110 Surge Protector on each device. I haven't had any problems with UV since and it's been a few months now. Oooh, these devices seem very sensitive to power surges. If you have similar problems, try a network filter! Back to 4 stars!
