My baby is long and thin - at 4 months she weighed 12 pounds 10 ounces and was 26 inches long. I bought a small but it was too big for my child and I should have gotten xsmall instead. I had to overlap the diaper enough to leave part of the Velcro open at the top. In the morning when my baby woke up, she kicked with her legs and could even stretch her arms out from under the fold. One morning she was moving so much and her arms stretched out and it pushed the Velcro up, touching her face and causing "a rash on the beard." After that I stopped using it. I'm sure it would work much better if I had a smaller size. So if your child is on the smaller end of the weight recommendation, go down a size. Because it's adjustable, it's easier not to wrap as tightly than trying to wrap down to a smaller size.
