Review on Pioneer MVH-S420BT: The Perfect Single Din Car Radio for Enhanced Audio Experience by Ojasvi Sharma ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like everything, the price and the quality are both ok.

In the pioneer mvh180ub inherited from the car, only bluetooth was missing. I got used to the sound of the end of the pioneers for a long time. Completely satisfied (I played enough with amplifiers and subwoofers in due time). With standard acoustics skoda rapid sounds subjectively excellent. I don’t need TVs and tablets in my car, so I didn’t look at 2din. Instead of a second slot, I consider a pocket for a smartphone and other small things to be more practical. When replacing mvh-180ub with mvh420bt I got: - Stable working bt speakerphone with two smartphones. - Subjectively, the sound quality has improved (rather, the merit of loudness). - The quality of FM reception has improved (it was good, but it got better. Noticeable when traveling around the region). Lost: - The function of quickly switching equalizer presets with a button on the panel. - The function of quick search in folders (at 180 there is a separate list button, here you need to hold one button for a couple of seconds). - There is a compact flash drive (qumo 16gb) which, when the ignition is turned on, almost always leads to error 19. It only helps to poke when the radio is running. The same problem was observed on the ancient pioneer deh5800. But I have never seen such an error on the pioneer mvh-180 in 5 years. - There was a noticeable heating of the radio. It is not clear why, because there is no powerful processor, the output is MS with field workers at the output. Sounds like an engineering miscalculation. Other notes: The microphone of quite decent quality copes, although worse than a separate headset, but it is enough for communication. A separate button for calling the navigation program is a convenient thing, but it requires a connected application. But with him, not everything is so rosy. I liked the android application at first, but after connecting the second smartphone, it became very difficult to connect. The settings have been tried, the connection memory has been cleared, etc. The problem manifests itself when more than one phone is connected via bt at the same time. Force connection just stops working. At the same time, there are no problems with calls for both smartphones.

Pros
  • Good sound. Rich sound controls. There is subtlety. Hands-free microphone included. Bluetooth keeps in touch with several phones at the same time. The sound of a connected Bluetooth smartphone with navigation is superimposed on the current source (radio, mp3). Good radio sensitivity in the FM band. Rich settings through a proprietary application.
Cons
  • The ergonomics of some functions could be better. High heating even when working at low volume. Problems with some usb drives (notorious error 19). When two smartphones are connected, there are regular problems with connecting the native application. High price.
