The valves didn't work, I cleaned the old ones, which then worked. Broken screw that broke easily

My engine stalled a few times when turning right into a parking lot or driveway. A day later the Check Engine light came on on my 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. I have a basic OBD tool that found error code P0010. Reading multiple website accounts, these are classic symptoms of a problem with the camshaft position sensor, either the solenoid valves themselves or a related electrical issue. I have found that they can be caused by engine oil "dirt" over a long period of time. The oil/filter needed to be changed, so I did; it was visually quite messy. I haven't seen any reports that a simple oil/filter change would solve the problem - it doesn't. The most common solution is to replace the solenoid valves. After reading and watching the video, this replacement seemed like a relatively easy do-it-yourself fix. I have 50 years of automotive experience and tools so I ordered this valve replacement kit. It arrived in 1 day. 1/2 hour later I swapped the valves. The stalling got worse, and the Check Engine light continued to burn even after a full day of testing. I could really build a kiosk. I decided to check my setup and found that the single bolt holding the valves was a bit loose. One was tightened with a part turn of a 6" manual socket wrench, the other valve screw broke near the head with low torque wrenching. I've never had a broken bolt in 50 years of mechanical work! I removed the other valve and was able to remove the bolt built into the engine head fairly easily with a left hand drill and needle nose pliers. I took the old valves out of the trash, examined them and cleaned them with an aerosol solvent, dried them and fitted them onto the original bolts. No problem manually tightened "old" screws. On an immediate test drive, the engine ran fine and would not stall, but the Check Engine light was still on. On the third test drive on the same day, the check engine light did not come on. My Equinox has been running great for 5 days and the Check Engine light is not on. Conclusion: Valves defective, bolts defective. In the future: keep your oil clean by changing it before the oil life percentage is low. I drive miles between oil changes (probably 6000 max) and a visual inspection, not this oil monitor. If I need to replace valves in the future, look for another brand.
