Significantly improved over last year's model - twice the memory (now 4GB) for the same price

HP Stream is probably the best deal on a $200 brand name computer right now. Your 11-inch laptop now has 4GB of RAM, up from 2GB in last year's model, which makes a noticeable difference in performance. The best part is that the price is the same. The additional RAM offers better multitasking and better overall performance for slightly more demanding tasks. The reason for this is that by adding an additional 2 GB of RAM, an additional memory channel has been added, which transfers data to the processor faster. This resulted in faster web browsing and even improved Minecraft performance. But make no mistake: this isn't a performance machine. This is enough to run Windows and many basic applications, but no more. It might be a good choice for kids as its limited internal storage and overall performance doesn't work well with modern games (if at all), but Microsoft Office applications run fine. The battery life is quite acceptable even with lower loads and is around 6-8 hours. The display runs on the cooler side (more blue cast) than I like, but is good enough for most tasks. The keyboard is very comfortable (my favorite of the many $200 PCs I've used), although the trackpad feels spongier than previous iterations. In short, this is a good deal for those looking for a budget PC, especially now that it has RAM at the same price as last year's model. ERROR - I incorrectly stated that the processor used in this year's PC is the same as last year. It's actually the N3060 chip, which has seen a slight increase in performance compared to previous years, but not by much. I stand by the claim that the additional channel of RAM makes a big difference in performance on this machine.

Pros
  • There's something to that
Cons
  • I'll add later
