Review on Schumacher DSR118 Handheld Battery Charger by Dave Cavazos

Didn't work properly

charger arrived on time but the box itself has seen better days. No big deal as long as everything works right? Well, the two batteries I had, it charged pretty quickly; but that was all he could do. Cold weather (and bad wiring on my old truck) drained the battery as expected, so I plugged it in and put it on boost/start. It turned on and off several times instead of staying on and after a while said the battery was low. Which is definitely not the case as (having used my portable launcher to start a truck) the battery is still working great to this day. One design feature/issue I found is that the select button cycles and you have to wait a while before it starts working. leading to unnecessary confusion as to whether it is set to the correct function. There are many devices that will give you the definitive crank switch < that's what I'll look for if/when I decide to buy another one. With two other devices I wanted to have this "all in one". for lightness and simplicity. It charges faster than my original and should start my truck (not "if", but) when the battery is low; Saving the internal battery on my portable jumper. It gets 2/5 stars simply because it at least charges the batteries fast enough. but that's all I managed to get him to do. Came back and resigned myself to starting the truck with the laptop when the battery was low.

Pros
  • 10 amp fast charge charges batteries in 3-5 hours
Cons
  • Mostly ok but...
