Excellent FM reception, below average AM

This is a Sangean DT-160 test Short version: Excellent FM reception, below average AM reception. The radio controls are not intuitive. Only 90 days guarantee. Long version: I use this radio in the San Francisco Bay Area. Outdoors: The FM reception of this radio is its strong point. FM signals are strong and fix quickly without interference from other stations. AM reception is a weakness of radio, although stations pick up quickly, most are weak and difficult to hear. It's in a big metropolis! Indoors: FM reception drops to very good, AM reception is poor or non-existent depending on the building. The radio is smaller than a deck of cards and seems lighter than the 2 AA batteries that power it. I had no problem turning on the radio as it turned on when I put the batteries in. When I wanted to turn off the radio, I didn't know how to do it. It turns out that the band select button duplicates the power button, even though the radio doesn't have a "power" nameplate. The extended bass function works well. The instruction manual is very short and excellent. The radio has a 90 day guarantee. 1 year warranty for Sony and Panasonic receivers. I bought the "CL" version, the case is transparent plastic and you can see the inside of the radio. Very interesting, I would recommend it to a child to see all the details, including the apparently fragile buttons. I noticed a small button battery soldered to the motherboard. I assume this is for backup power to your storage stations. Hopefully if this battery needs to be replaced it will not affect the basic operation of the radio as this battery is not user replaceable. A technician with soldering skills could replace him, but definitely not an ordinary person. I used a pair of Panasonic headphones and Philips headphones to test this radio. With Philips headphones, some stations sound stronger, background noise is lower than with Panasonic headphones. Try different headphones and over-ear headphones to see which one works best for you. If you need an FM pocket radio then this is the one for you. If you need AM radio outdoors, this might work. If you need AM indoors, look for another radio. Pros: Excellent FM reception Light weight Excellent user manual Cons: Below average AM reception Radio operation is not intuitive/easy No belt clip 90 day warranty
