Just a disclaimer we've only been using these shoes for 3 weeks. I ordered these for my sister's wedding and they worked great! My son doesn't mind having these on at all. They fit very well and easily fit on his foot, which can be too tall (from bottom to top of arch) to fit into other shoes I have tried. My son is just barely starting to walk and we have even been using them outside for both crawling and walking. I expected them to start tearing and scuffing when worn outside but they still look great weeks later. Yes the sole is a soft leathery that will probably not hold up too too long outside, but it's been working for us a for a few weeks.
