I bought these shoes to 1) walk the coral beach, 2) wade in creeks while hiking, and 3) use them as walking shoes while hiking. They are comfortable, fit well and do everything I wanted them to do well. But (and this is important) they still have a strong chemical odor despite being "aired out," washed with soap, reused, and left in the sun. The smell is so strong that when I put it in the closet with my other gear, the smell permeates the closet and hits you in the face when you open it. The other gear absorbs odors until ventilated. When they were new I washed them a few times and hung them on a hook in the garage and they smelled like a garage. It has improved over time, but even after a few uses and a few months, it's still very noticeable.
