Review on 36-Inch Stainless Steel Grab Bar by Amazon Basics by Kyle Larjin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Vertical mounting was a little tricky.

I bought a 12 inch vertical hairpin handrail. The mounting plate is welded to the stem, so the long bolt on the inside of the stem is not accessible (see photo). However, the design included several screw holes slightly offset from the center line, so I was hoping to use at least 4 of the 6 included stainless steel screws on the offset line. The long #10 Phillips screws need to be driven right down the center of the 2x4 bolt to keep them from loosening. Even with the pilot hole, my drill bit reamed the center of the screw's inner head, and I ended up having to pry it out with pliers . I was unsatisfied. Surprisingly, the plank is securely fastened to the drywall with just two screws at the end of the plank. Since I only use the bar for balancing, I've decided to live with it. The pads fit right into place, and the final installation looks professional, and at least feels strong. The price is excellent. However, due to the inflexible welded mounting plate, consider using a different handrail if mounting in a direction other than horizontal.
