Review on Optilux Hella H71070582 Yellow Halogen by Nick Kussmaul

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality and low price.

I bought these to replace the high beam/daytime running lights on my 2008 Subaru Outback. I considered buying HID 9005 ballasts and replacement bulbs, but went with them because I read that the lower voltage of daytime running lights (Subaru uses high beams as DRLs) will cause the HID to flicker or not work. I'm happy because they are bright enough, much cheaper and less of a hassle than the 8000k H7 HID kit I installed for the low beam. I'm happy with my HIDs, but if I knew how much cheaper and easier to install they are (no modifications to these bulbs) I wouldn't buy an HID kit. The only problem I had with these 9005s and also with the 9006 Optilux bulbs I used to replace the fog lights were not fitting in the sockets at first. I guess the o-rings on them are a bit thicker than the OEM/Syvania bulbs, but I put a drop of petroleum jelly on the o-rings and it helped them slide in and snap into place. If your bulbs seem too tight to you, try putting petroleum jelly or silicone grease on the o-rings before returning them or starting to cut them out with a Dremel tool or file. I'd rather have squeezed them tight knowing the o-ring will seal water and dust and keep them tight than too loose causing the top to rattle and let water and dust through. As for the higher performance, they are noticeably brighter. and whiter than 55W bulbs, but they don't look nearly twice as bright as the math would suggest. I have 100 watt high beams and 80 watt fog lights. I had no issues with wiring overheating, stopping or blinding other riders. I think every car's wiring and headlight reflectors are different, but I had no problems with my 2008 Subaru Outback. The best thing about them is the price. I've spent over $60 on other bulbs (mainly Sylvania UltraStar and SilverStar) and these Optilux bulbs are 25-30% better than their price. I am gradually upgrading all family members' cars with Optilux lamps because I am satisfied with the quality and the price. I highly recommend it.
