I have a fairly old (7 year old) pair of Clark's Desert Boots suede boots in tan or sand color and they have some stains and stains. To me, these are just casual shoes, but I've never used any waterproofing or protective sprays. Lesson learned, I will now do this with every pair of shoes I get. The instructions say "completely wet". Shoes with product, meaning a pair of suede chukkas will likely take up a third of a bottle. $11 per bottle which is very expensive compared to other cleaners. It also lasts a long time because the atomizer 1) puts out a very fine mist and 2) has a very wide spray angle, so I ended up getting about half of it on the counter I was working at instead of shoes. After that I cleaned a little, rinsed and let the boots dry for a couple of days. Be sure to stuff your fingers with paper towels, microfiber, or whatever so they hold their shape while they dry. The bottom line was this. Good? It didn't work as I had hoped. Some spots are gone, many are just a little lighter, and some are not affected at all. Considering the price ($11 for a tiny bottle) I was very disappointed in the performance. It worked, at least for lightening the sides of the crepe sole. Not exactly clean, but helpful. In terms of color change, it's possible that the suede has darkened a bit, but that could just be because the suede got wet, not necessarily that particularly clean. I will try other suede cleaning options before buying this one again. But more importantly, I will now protect any new shoes I get with a water-repellent spray. It's one of those "I wish I knew" things: It's a lot easier to protect suede (and shoes in general) from the start than trying to clean and restore them after you've ruined them. It's like wearing sunscreen; The best day to start is yesterday, the next best day is today.
