Not all masks require this item, but some definitely do. I have several sheet masks that stick right to my nostrils when I inhale, and this little face support stops that from happening right away. There is some sort of indentation/notch at the top that allows the mount to rest on the nose and stay in place. The slits on the side flaps are used to pass through the mask's ear loops so that the mask holds the orthosis in place once it is put on. Don't try to open your mouth too wide or the clamp will move, so keep your facial movements to a minimum. Aside from the recommended avoidance of flamboyant facial expressions that nobody can see anyway, this silicone mount is beautiful. Washing is also very easy. Haven't tried throwing it in the washing machine yet as I've found using soap and warm water works well. Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who has (or claims to have) difficulty breathing while wearing a mask.
