It doesn't work well for riveting machines

As a former bodybuilder and with thousands of plastic rivets I assumed something so simple might not work. However, it does! It doesn't pull on the center pin but gets caught on the edge. I haven't removed the cover and haven't noticed anything wrong, the only thing I can surmise is that the internal spring is too tight which prevents the jaws from pinching the stem. I missed the return deadline by 2 days and just paid $20 for 40 plastic rivets.
