I've had cats fighting, hitting squirrels, getting into hot spots etc and I've had to wear the Cone of Shame. Cats *hate* Cone of Shame. except for one monstrous girl who armed hers by putting her over the common food bowl and just stood there until everyone finally gave up and left. but this is another story. I always have an emergency cone and other first aid items to hand. So I saw a cat with a donut in a YouTube video where her (cough) "owners" (butler) explain why and how. and thought what a great idea. I bought a small donut for my 14-1/2 lb kitten. tried on. he wasn't pleased. but it was the right size for him. Now it's wearing his favorite soft rabbit, so he's used to seeing and smelling it. And since this guy is "a prisoner with a life sentence," hopefully he'll never have to carry a donut; But just in case.
