Review on πŸ”Š Cerwin-Vega SL-28: Superior Dual 8" 2-Way Floor Speaker for Optimal Sound Performance by Jennifer Thomas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Just unbelievable! Overview of SL-12 and SL-45c. [REDACTED: 2020-11-12]

[Edited speaker layout] I can only say wow! I have the entire system 7.2.4 and all but the up-firing speakers are Cerwin-Vegas (front = SL-12, surround = RE-16; two subwoofers = LW-12; center = SL-45c; front/rear height = XT-C5). These beauties replaced my old Cerwin-Vega V-10. The mids and bass are just amazing for the price. The tweeter is good, but not in the mid/bass range. I put a pint down so you can feel its height. The roll-off is 40 Hz, but can also be set to "Full" depending on the sub situation. [Edited Entire Review] [Revision] Cerwin Vega SL-45c: OK after actually testing the speakers with PC software. The biggest difference was this - DISABLE ROOM CALIBRATION. My first post was that I was disappointed with the high level. But I've come to the conclusion that my receiver software is absolute rubbish, making this speaker sound terrible at high frequencies, and I have the best Onkyo RZ-3100 in the lineup. I disabled Onkyo's AccuEQ and now I can hear sound better and I can hear these little noises that I couldn't hear before. I'm not sure why this is happening with resizing, but I just can't use it. I also mute these speakers at 100 Hz. Tried all kinds of rollback, from 60 (nominally 55Hz) to 120. The best sound is 100Hz and it gets rid of the deep bass from these speakers which I don't need. If you need bass, buy two LFE subwoofers. Also, when tested, the two speakers in this box appear to cross from left to right (bass, mid, tweeter, mid, bass). Overall I'm very happy with this speaker with room correction disabled on the receiver. I also put large 3M rubber feet under the floor, I probably don't hear any benefit. Oh and. They seem to take a long time to bake. They sound better with age.

Pros
  • Two-way system design
Cons
  • For old
