Review on Nikwax Cotton Proof Waterproofing: Enhance Durability & Repel Water by Allie Diaz

it makes the canvas waterproof!

We have used this product many times during the cold, wet and rainy season on large canvas tents with excellent results, but this is the first time we have used this Nikwax waterproofing material to waterproof new raw canvas . The goal of our little waterproofing project was to create a small area to sit away from the main patio where we could stay cool and dry. So we bought a cotton canvas fabric, 9 x 12 All Purpose Canvas Cotton Drop. We use the fabric as a decorative lampshade and rain cover. We choose denim over tarp to get rid of the grommets that make it look like a tarp. Thus we get the appearance of a decorative canvas, more like a "sail". what we wanted. So we washed and dried the canvas (to intentionally shrink it to tighten the weave, reducing the size of the canvas weave holes, increasing opacity and reducing water permeability (tight weave = very small holes = increased opacity/increased Sun protection and better water repellency) ) We applied one (1) coat following the video instructions above, let it dry and, wow! ... we couldn't be happier ... the water collects in drops and rolls off the canvas ... the fabric is like a freshly waxed machine! Even where we spilled something on a pair of jeans and an old rag, water pools and repels water in those spots, like in the demo video at the top of the item detail page where the owner pours it over his canvas pants! I think we do everyone loves it when a project comes together. and this one definitely loved it! although we haven't had any rain yet, we have found that we are well protected from the sun and we have modeled the rain by dousing it with water from a Spray hose and enjoy watching the 2o beads roll out as expected! very satisfied. Many Thanks. :-) Dec
