This door was perfect for our cat. We installed it in the house so she could access the bedroom. On hot summer nights, we use the air conditioner in one room, so leaving the door open cannot cool the room. She's not too fat at about 13 pounds, but we went with this larger door because we thought it would be more comfortable for her than those 5x5 doors. It took her about 2 days to figure out how it works. We tried to persuade her but in the end we gave it up to her, she was determined to open it with her paw instead of going through it headfirst. Once she figured it out, it was easy and now she's using it with no problems. Installation was very easy, we have a hollow core door so it was easy to cut. The supplied template is perfect for preparing the door. I didn't even have to take the door off its hinges. I've tested the lock feature and it works fine, but we never use it, we don't want to confuse it with sometimes being open and sometimes not. I am very happy with this door, it was a little more expensive than other cats. Doors I looked at but in the end I'm glad I followed my intuition and bought these.
