Installed in 2016 Nissan LEAF SV

When I bought my Nissan LEAF last year I didn't want the leather seats that came with the SL. This meant using a lower SV trim, which saved me some money but sacrificed HomeLink, among a few other nice things. The car came with a GenTex mirror in an old auto-dimming frame, but without HomeLink (or, for that matter, a button to turn off the dimming). Nissan's standard mirror also appeared to be inconsistent in dimming response; it often didn't dim enough, even to the point where I wondered if it was working. This new mirror is a great upgrade. I had to connect a new connector as my LEAF used an old connector. A few meticulous installers splice, solder and shrink for professional work. I wired the mirror up to just use the existing 12v ignition switch and ground from the old mirror. As a result, the HomeLink buttons don't work when the car is off, which I prefer for security reasons. The mirror retains the HomeLink programming even when the power is turned off, so there is no problem here. The dimming performance is much better than my stock Nissan LEAF mirror. There is no doubt that it really works. Plus, the frameless design is less visually distracting throughout the day. Once frameless, framed mirrors look so bulky in comparison. Hm, like glasses. I like that the buttons glow softly and automatically dim at night. I turned the mirror upside down to better fit the shape of my rear window. This puts the buttons on the top edge, and the home link icons that glow through the mirror when you press the buttons are also upside down, but who cares? they are short and usually they cover my hand anyway. The mirror has a long transmission range - much longer than my remote control and all you have to do is press the button on the mirror. No need to press and hold. It seems to be sending the signal long enough on its own. Having the buttons ready and just pressing them makes me feel like I can focus more on driving without messing around with the remote. opener itself is not compatible with HomeLink. All in all, this is a great upgrade. I bought another one for our second car.
