This tensioner chain is smooth - no sharp or torn edges. I find it attractive. It's also a good size for my hand - doesn't slip off when I tug on it. We bought 2.1 silver and one bronze. The silver one is on the light fixture in the bathroom which is wall (not ceiling) mounted. The chain hangs about 8 inches from the wall on this particular light (my husband converted a rotary switch light to a pull switch). to accommodate my short stature :-) So if someone had a contraption like ours and had kids - if you pull on it too hard and casually let go it could bounce off the wall. In our house this is not a problem. , but as this item has a bit more weight than wooden beads I thought I mention it - it may scratch the paintwork or damage the mirror.
