Review on Moen 920 004 Smart Detector 1 Pack by Joshua Pilla

Ok except crashes when adding devices to app

After a costly leak in my apartment while I was away I bought them for my bathroom, kitchen and laundry room. Setting up in the iPhone app was an issue with frequent freezes, errors, and disconnects. But once I got over that, everything was fine (note: next to the battery is a reset button, plug it in and start over if nothing works). The app looks clean, easy to use, and informative, and the hardware seems solid so far. The detectors report temperature and humidity about twice an hour, and if I put them in a puddle to check, they all warn for a few seconds, flash, beep (not very loud) and notify in the app. Each detector comes with an extra water sensor on an extension cord, but if you plug in that sensor you won't be able to use the sensor that's built into the bottom of the detector itself; it is one or the other, but not both. UPDATE AFTER 5 MONTHS: After 5 months everyone started giving 20% battery warning (with original batteries included). Then one of them got wet, notified me via the app and the next day its battery died but the rest kept working. Therefore, be sure to replace the batteries as soon as you get the warning! Also, I just added another sensor and just like before, setting it up on my iPhone was still a problem that required multiple attempts. UPDATE AFTER 1 YEAR: All 5 continue to function with no issues and report temperature and humidity constantly, except for one day when multiple devices were turned off at different random times for several hours each. It wasn't a battery issue as those that stayed online showed 100% battery and they all had fresh batteries installed at the same time - and it wasn't a wifi issue as my other wifi devices continued to work fine. So I think it was some kind of problem with the server at the end of Moen. UPDATE AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF: As soon as the battery level reached 50%, they all turned off randomly and reconnected to the network after a few hours. about every week or so (this is with the spare batteries I installed - the ones they came with only lasted a few months). But the app doesn't officially notify you when your battery is low until it drops to 20%. Pesky reliability is reduced when there's plenty of battery life left.
