This camera packs a lot of electronic magic into a small body at a good price. This is the ooze of years of good Nikon innovation. While its diminutive size is just great for keeping in your pocket or purse for those "oh my god, who's got a camera?" moments, this isn't a premium camera for critical shots. This is a hobby camera or just in case camera. And for that purpose it works very well. The image quality is excellent for outdoor shots in good light. If you're a bit photography savvy, you can get this camera to do a lot with all its features. It gets gloomy when shooting indoors in low light, but it all depends on experience and point of view. My 5 year old Olympus camera takes great pictures but my old Olympus can't even successfully take a picture coming out in low light. Based on my experience with the Nikon S205, if you take lazy photos with this camera, you should take a few amateur photography courses to understand lighting, scene framing, shutter speed, aperture, etc. The basics still apply. This little Nikon uses some electronic tricks to enable the beginner to take pictures in places where they really shouldn't be. As a result, images may appear slightly grainy in the dark areas of the photo. Improve the scene lighting or adjust the ISO setting to a maximum of 400 or 800 and you'll get much better results. However, it does its job very well. The video recording capabilities of this camera are also very good (and it saves videos as .AVI files, which I like better than other formats).
