Just a rescue blanket

Bought this in 2018 to keep in the car in case of an emergency. Based on all the positive feedback, I was confident that in the event of an emergency strike, I would be prepared for the worst. But like most, I never really believed I needed to use this thing, so I never thought of "testing" it before I needed it. Unfortunately I was wrong. During the short hike, a "cold snap" suddenly struck, bringing the forecast overnight low of 59F to the actual 29F and it started snowing. Both my tent and bag were only rated at 40F this weekend so you could say I was pretty unlucky. Remembering that I had this bivouac in my glove box, I made a decision to "never give up," walking all the way to my car to pick it up. After the first use, it was disappointingly clear that the quality wasn't any better than the 99-cent "space ceilings" that you can buy at the cash register of the local hardware store. The quality of the outer carrying case completely belied the contents. Nonetheless. I wanted to believe I made the right purchase decision, so I decided to give it a try. Anyway, what choice did I have at 2am? I will say that it may have raised the temp in my pocket by a few degrees, but I definitely didn't sleep that night and I wasn't much less miserable than without it. I'm alive. But since I already had a bag and tent which undoubtedly did most of the legwork, I'm not sure this thing can be considered a genuine survival product? But still, the bag will definitely never be used again. Even in my Columbia Sportwear mummy bag, which was over a Klymit inflatable sleeping pillow, and in my Mountain Hardware 2P tent (no sharp ends anywhere) it ripped in multiple places during one use during the chilliest hours of that flip night. It was a one-time use and for that I don't think it lived up to its $20 price tag. If your actual needs match mine (in addition to the already "good enough" overnight gear to weather unforeseen weather), you'd be better off tossing $2-3 storage room blankets in your pack, if only for warmth. and comfort. If you rely on this thing to keep you alive in a real life or death situation and/or hope it will save your bacon more than once, I wouldn't dare. I'm just glad the reason I turned to this wasn't a more serious one, otherwise I won't be here to tell you to keep looking for something better.
