We were looking for a way to take our dogs on the bike (they hate staying at home). We use a baby carrier with a wire kennel inside. I came across these baskets and thought we might try them. Lola (right) - She weighs about 6 pounds and she holds it perfectly. I'm glad it has a hook for her to attach her collar to as she's small enough to slip through the top of the basket. Lucy (left) - she is a bichon and weighs about 12 pounds. The basket will slip under its own weight or when hitting a bump. During the ride we found a big stick that got stuck between the bike and the basket to keep it from slipping off. We will forever change it with something else before our next outing. (I wouldn't recommend a dog heavier than 15 pounds in the front without a little modification to keep the basket from sliding off.) Both dogs did great and enjoyed the ride. I'll probably take some fabric and make an improvised lampshade to attach to the top of the basket. I had a small piece of foam that I placed underneath Lucy to soften her a bit. It came with a thin piece of padding for the bottom of the basket. With that extra weight up front, it's a bit difficult to control at the start. We drove about 16 miles round trip and it was flat and straight. This is about our regular rides, which can be up to 20 miles long. I don't expect hills and curves alone. I'm not sure how he's going to handle those two. We're just glad we don't have to lug the buggies around anymore.
