Was working great until we broke it. The glass is quite thin as you would expect given its shape. Until it broke we used it as a decanter replacement for our drip machine. The original plastic filter cone was falling apart and at that point we didn't like the idea of using plastic. Glass was ideal and a great alternative. The supplied isolating rubber band served its purpose perfectly. When the carafe was filled to the hilt with liquid and the coffee rested on the rubber, it got pretty hot. When the coffee was under the gum it worked better and wasn't a problem. I would say the decanter is best for 6 cups but will hold 8. Liquid wise it can handle 8 cups but depending on how fresh your soil is. yes, the train overflowed sometimes. This will cause a bit of a mess. This is probably only an issue if you're using it as a carafe replacement in a drip machine, as it can't tell when the coffee grounds are overflowing. If you used a drip kettle, this probably isn't a problem. With apparently many disadvantages, I still recommend it and would buy it again. The fact that this is a plastic-free all-in-one option makes it worth it.
