Insufficient power supply for multiple external hard drives.

The main reason I bought this USB 3.0 hub was to connect some external hard drives and some accessories to free up the USB ports on my computer. Most of the time this worked fine, but I kept having issues with my hard drives and eventually moved to a new drive connected to a hub. I replaced what I thought was a failed old hard drive with a brand new drive, exactly the same as the one I'm currently using (I needed a separate drive for Time Machine backups). Wow, I soon figured out the problem when both my external drives started beeping, disconnected, not mounted etc. LOW POWER! The USB hub was not providing enough power to power both hard drives at the same time. I really wasn't expecting this having run drives from USB 2.0 hubs like this one, but this particular 3.0 hub just couldn't do what I needed. The good: it's pretty, even though I keep it on a hidden shelf. on my desk to hide my cords and seems well made. It works great with USB wireless accessories, LED strips, etc. That's the only reason it gets 2/5 stars instead of 1/5. Problem. I'm lucky not to have damaged the drive or destroyed my work data, family photos/videos of my kids, etc. over the years. Can I recommend this? no Find another USB hub, even if you don't currently plan to use it with external drives. You may need this option in the future and this drive may not be suitable for this purpose.
