Review on VIKINGS BLADE Crusader Adjustable Safety by Rodney Sample

Better as a kit than a workhorse

Completely disappointed in this razor. It is designed for advanced safety razor users. I see myself as such. I have used different models for many years. Documentation is rather limited. It doesn't say anything about why it has a closed comb side and a smooth side. As far as I know, this is not a common trait. After much trial and error I've come to the conclusion that the smooth side is semi useless, so I have to rinse the razor twice as often and rotate the blade after a few shaves. The adjustable head is interesting. Is it important. But there are no markings, so you just have to guess by looking at the distance between the heads. Good. The other issue is that I've hurt my face pretty badly a couple of times due to the locking handle coming off. It can be hard to tell by looking at it, but if it's not fully tightened it will cut you. So I learned to check it every time. In general, the shaving experience did not impress me. It could be a combination of blades. I love the Wilkinson Swords blades on my other razor, but I never get a good shave with this one. When I travel I use dollar razor cartridges and they give me a MUCH closer shave than this Viking. Finally finished. I have attached pictures. I bought it a little over a year ago and yes. Even with a rather rare application - I don't shave every day - the result is absolutely finished. Save money and buy stainless steel. I like the handle very much. It's long and the black textured handle is cool, but it's a magnet for hard-to-clean debris. If they did the same thing with a stainless steel finish and a standard closed comb on both sides, I'd be happy to give it a try.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Protection
