Review on Shock-Resistant Transcend StoreJet 25M3 USB 3.1 Slim Portable Hard Drive with 500GB Capacity by Abhi Abhilasha

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Average purchase, there is something to complain about.

I have a Transcend of the same series, old, USB2, with orange instead of green, 500GB. Yes, "green" is noticeably faster (2-3 times). I also tested the read speed in blocks under 4KB (about 20MB / s, and the old one gives out half as much). But, the old disk is nicer to me: 1) The old disk does not have an annoyingly bright diode, during periods of no reading / writing. 2) The old Transcend is much quieter. I practically don’t hear the old one at all, if I don’t deliberately listen (I live in a quiet place, I have a quiet laptop with an SSD, which is passively cooled most of the time). And I connect a new disk - and I hear it very clearly. Unpleasant. The new disk also becomes silent and with the diode off, but only if it is not accessed for a relatively long time after the end of reading / writing (for the old one, the diode goes out immediately after the end of reading / writing). And the old one is also inaudible even during periods of active reading / writing. In addition to speed, a more careful attitude to the laptop battery can be added to the advantages of the new disk - the rotation of the disk stops if it is not accessed for some time. And the old disk rotates constantly (I checked it by leaning my hand against the HDD case). PS: the old drive also has a much less bright diode!

Pros
  • The use of USB3.0 is justified. 100MB \ s - they would not fit into USB2.0.
Cons
  • 2. Stupid diode. 1. Not so quiet.
