An excellent form of disguise - especially for quilts and other difficult painting jobs

Discussing masking tape is a bit like discussing politics or religion. However, I make a lot of quilts (8' x 8' geometric patterns on plywood) and have used nearly 30 rolls of this tape. This band works best for me (not blue, not green, but yellow!). Other "experts" disagree - but I like the yellow one. The secret I learned is to seal the edges of the ribbon by painting the edge of the ribbon with the paint that is underneath the ribbon. All ribbons bleed a little paint at the bottom. If you apply a thin layer of paint under the tape, no bleeding will be visible and the edge of the tape will be sealed. Always start with the lightest colors first. A darker color coated with the color you sealed the tape with. If the tape is taut, you'll have a crisp, sharp edge. (Ok, it works 99% of the time - nothing's totally foolproof.) Since I'm NOT a patient worker, I also need some duct tape that won't pull down freshly painted layers. The yellow ribbon was designed with this in mind. Also, the tape is fairly transparent so I can see my guides and previously painted areas underneath the tape. This is EXTREMELY useful for complex templates.
