Very cute but plastic lids don't work

Nice gift. It looks well made and has a nice chain. However, after inserting the photo, I tried using one of the pieces of plastic that came with it to cover the photo. That's when I discovered why there are 3 plastic lids. All three broke trying to attach them. The size of the lid and the frame obviously do not match. I hope I can apply a very thin coat of clear varnish to the photo to protect it and keep it framed. It was almost a great gift, but after an hour it doesn't seem so great anymore.
