I used to buy a big cat scratching post and after several years and intensive use I bought a big one. (Note the big kitten is fine and has a lot more to offer. I got a new one because my old 17 year old kitten died and I later rescued an active 1 year old boy to take care of me and my Keeping 13 year old boys company and both felt like they would both need something new and fresh for a long time, which generally speaks volumes.I have several Pet Fusion products - these scratching posts and the toilet mat - and I had no hesitation to buy more.I contacted them about the new wood and carpet scratcher before it was released and they were fully responsive to my feedback on the pre-layouts they shared with me.So back to the jumbo scratcher: both cats liked it him IMMEDIATELY. You scratch him, sleep on both tiers, you can scratch or rest on top and the other one on bottom. It's big, but not THAT big to look weird in my apartment. Yes, it starts to shed pieces of cardboard after a while, but none obnoxious or difficult to clean with a handheld vacuum. It's definitely durable - my cat threw up hairballs on this one and the old one, which I've cleaned and sanitized without damaging the scratching post or preventing her from using it after drying. I love that it tips over so I have a brand new scratching post that they can rip apart when one side wears out, but I imagine even the most boisterous of kitties will take many, many years to come!
