My long haired chihuahua has always been a tough little guy since he was a puppy. This is a long comment but it took a lot of searching and money to find a good solution. Little does he know his fighting weight is only 7 pounds. but in the nature of the breed is not limited. Bred on sail farms, they warned farmers of mountain lions, wolves, strangers, and other dangers. He was able to turn the other two gates into useless metal and happily greeted me at the front door. Big no no. I bought a 4 leaf gate because of the good size zig zag barrier. The white lamellae are close together and he cannot squeeze through. The gate is more than strong enough to stand free without the need for reinforcement. I took it out of the box and laid it out in a large area between the kitchen/laundry room/back hallway/bedroom and bathroom, dining room, living room and front door (single entrance). It's an odd configuration, so I had trouble finding a gate he couldn't get through. This was beginning to become a very tedious and expensive exercise. He ran straight at him. "What is that?" He stuck his nose in one of the boards, looked inside, sniffed, looked around carefully and never went near it again. For some reason he doesn't consider these gates unfriendly. My neighbors were impressed because they knew I was having trouble closing the room. I use one of the end plates as a gate. They open and close easily. He never tried to break out like he did with the other two, no matter how reliable they seemed to me. When I brought in groceries or other items, he was very smart and very quick, and could quickly rush straight to the door to visit the neighborhood dogs. I measured it before purchasing and found it overall bulkier, more durable, and better looking than expected. I found it very reasonably priced and worth the extra cost to permanently solve a fugitive artist's problem.
