Review on ROBERTSON ISL296T12MV Fluorescent Electronic Ballast for 120 277Vac by Richard Sallah

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple and efficient

The new electronic ballasts pack a punch compared to the old magnetic ballasts, being flicker-free, quiet, small and light (not to mention efficient). The new ballasts are simpler than the old ones and require fewer connections which can confuse the inexperienced despite the wiring diagram on the ballast. Assuming the device has the usual "break" pins on one end (one has two white wires, the other two black wires, and the main AC power goes to one of them), the easiest way is to cut all the pins off. Split the black and white wires into equal lengths, strip them then connect the red wire from the ballast to the BBWW harness. The blue wires from the ballast go to the existing red and blue wires on the other end of the fixture, one each. Of course, the black and white wires from the AC supply go to the black and white on the ballast, and the greedy from the AC supply goes to the fixture body.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires socket
