I bought this after reading some reviews to replace my second Pampered Chef which had a broken handle. We used it once and I absolutely love it. Yes, instructions must be read and followed! There were several reviews that mentioned the unit melting and I can only assume they didn't read that the cook times are for an 800w microwave. I have a 1200w unit, I set it to 70% power and it worked perfectly. The reviews mentioning "peeling plastic" on the lid is NOT plastic, it's leftover rice starch when water vapor escapes through the vents. I love the clean design, the way the spatula acts as a lid locking mechanism during cooking, and the built in strainer for rinsing the rice before cooking (something I recently learned is the key to fluffy rice). Can't find anything to criticize yet but am curious how he handles large portions as quite a bit of liquid has collected on the lid during cooking and I've only cooked 2 portions.
