Review on USB hub Satechi Dual Multimedia Adapter (ST-TCDMMA), connectors: 3, silver by Adam Bronisz ᠌

Does not meet my expectations, it was not worth buying.

According to the description, this adapter is possibly one of the greatest ones yet. I likewise fell prey to this description. Used the adapter with a brand-new MacBook Pro 16, 2022, for a little over a year. Due to the fact that I use a laptop for work, I used it nonstop, or daily for at least 8 hours. Yes, it does out its duties, but obviously not well. 1. An HDMI connection to a 2K monitor with a refresh rate of 30Hz was made. The display on the monitor abruptly vanished for 4–8 seconds often every day, or sometimes more than once a day. 2. The gigabit hub's patch cable was attached to the adaptor. The adapter maintained gigabit speeds, but the connection abruptly dropped under moderately heavy loads (such as when copying many files over the network and making a conversation on Skype). The MacBook had to be entirely restarted in order to recover it. 3. A 2 TB Seagate Backup Plus disk was attached through USB. The drive occasionally came unplugged, necessitating a reconnect. Working with this adapter is difficult and unpredictable. First, he committed a sin on the Macbook itself by wiping the SMC and NVRAM and even completely reinstalling MacOS. Then, in order to improve WiFi coverage, he dropped the LAN connection and installed a Wi-Fi extender. Then, weary of constant issues, I purchased a Chinese adapter to connect a monitor and a USB drive that works brilliantly and is also five times less expensive. Perhaps it was fate that led to my marriage, but there are issues with the family's other Satechi adaptor as well.

Pros
  • a small body, a lot of connectors, and a metal construction
Cons
  • Unreasonably high cost, weak aluminum case, erratic operation, and intense heat
