I really thought I'd like them - I like the style and functionality of most Japanese things. Well maybe (as another reviewer said) Japanese made waffle towels are better. It's been two weeks, I'm not a fan. Outside of the packaging I didn't find it very absorbent: it just squeezed water around. Having had this issue with many brands of new cotton towels over the years (anything about how cotton is processed these days?), I washed them in hot water before judging. On the other hand, it hasn't shrunk much and has kept a good size. On the other hand, after washing it didn't absorb much better than before. It may dry a little quicker than my thick terry towels, but that's probably mainly because it absorbs less water. I don't like the "sticky" feel of these pieces compared to thick terry cloth. And he's already got a few picks/hanging themes. YMMV, but it's not for me.
