So far I've always used crimp connectors. They work great except when in tight spaces where it's nearly impossible to get the crimping tool to do its job. There is also the problem of having to pre-install heat shrink tubing on it, which is also sometimes difficult. They solve both problems. Simply slide the connector onto a wire, join the bare ends of the two wires together, insert the connector into the connector so the solder ring inside is over the joined ends, fire the heat gun and shrink the ends and then press plumb. Ring until it melts and flows and you're done, but allow the joint to cool for about 30 seconds before pulling or it will break.
