How to fix unwanted destruction of a two piece post

When we bought this product we knew there could be a problem if the top post suddenly slides down when you push the carpet forward . This was based on feedback from many buyers. The fix is shown (when completed) in the first 3 photos above. Make sure your stick is the right length for your needs and hand-tighten. A workbench is recommended. No kitchen table! I used a 9/64" drill bit since it was the size for a #10 screw (see last photo) 3/4" (#10 x 1/2" long will work too). You'll need Use a hammer and punch (or sharp nail) to make a small indentation in the top post about 7/8" above the bottom axle joint (measured from the black flat plastic ring on the underside of the top bar joint. The post is made of very hard steel, so your drill bit must be sharp or new. Use safety glasses until you've drilled about 1/4" deep. Then use a larger drill bit that matches the size of your screw. Drill the hole to a depth from 1/2 to 3/4" depending on the length of screw used. Pull out the black plastic drill bit in a spiral. Okay, since there is a hard plastic core in that area. Install the screw by hand with a Phillips head screwdriver inside The black plastic core holds the screw securely in place.
