Use this model more than others I have owned Switched from the Epson 3640 series which was very cheap when bought. Over time, reviews of this car fell in parallel with my own experience. Ultimately, Epson handled the paper very poorly, with double-sided paper jams becoming the norm after around 900 pages. Likewise, the scanner's ADF jammed badly, and in general I realized that if there was a demand for duplex printing in our home, it was not worth spending more money on cartridges. Inkjet printers are cheap to buy, but expensive over time due to the extreme cost of the ink. Many years ago I had major problems with HP and a terrible set of drivers, including the scanner never working over the network. I saw that newer HP models had multiple reviews with similar complaints, and I knew I couldn't go down that route again. Brother branded models have been very good for me in the past so I really considered buying them but wanted to try Canon this time after seeing a link to 100% US customer support which I really like as a feature. I bought the Canon 5420 at my office because of the brand's reputation. After working on the device at home for a few days, we are very satisfied with it as the printing is of high quality, the speed is incredibly fast, the ink cartridges have a large capacity, the scanner works very well, the duplex printing is seamless, and the overall design. the quality seems to be high. There are a few minor things Canon could improve, including: โข The installer is not very intuitive as it asks questions about the network interface to use. Assuming you install a printer; You might assume the question is about setup on the printer side, but it's really about how your computer connects. Since I was on a wireless router, I had to select a wireless network, which didn't make much sense to me in the way the question was worded. Once I got through that, the installation went fine. The first time I answered incorrectly, the network drivers I needed for the scanner and printer were not installed. โข I don't understand why on earth this printer doesn't wake up by default when a print job arrives for the first time. Luckily, you can go into the economy mode's settings menu and change that. This has allowed me to reduce the standby time from around four hours to one hour and set the printer to wake up when a print job arrives. โข The paper trays don't slide all the way out when loading standard letter-size paper, which is pretty silly, although admittedly not a big deal - they stick out about an inch. I think this printer will serve me well and I will report any problems that arise.
