NHT C-3 Review - Center Speaker

I bought a pair of NHT C-3 bookshelf speakers for the amazing price of $536 plus tax, which is probably the best price I've seen. with new devices. The fit and finish are amazing, rivaling much more expensive speakers, and the cosmetic change from the rounded top and bottom of the earlier Classic Three makes for a simpler, more refined look. There are fingerprints on the surface, so you must wear cotton gloves to take the speakers out of the box. In terms of sound, the C-3 has everything you would expect from a high-quality tripod, with excellent stereo sound. Picture and sound stage presentation, but this system also has a remarkable continuity which, particularly in a large room, makes the transition from one driver to another almost seamless in this three-way design, with an overall effect more akin to a flat panel display. Loudspeaker type as a small dynamic box. The sealed acoustic suspension design also allows the C-3's 6.5-inch woofer to well reproduce the low frequencies found in most unamplified music recorded with limited processing. This reduces the efficiency of the system, but makes the speaker commendably balanced across the range. If there's a limit, it's the maximum audio output the speaker can achieve - it won't throw you out of the room - which isn't a huge sacrifice in favor of natural response and musicality. The C-3 under normal listening conditions. The C-3 plays loud enough, but it's better to ditch those party speakers and pull out a Cerwin Vega box to rock the house. Note: This estimate is based on C-3 speakers in a fairly large room - 23'x18' with a 16' ceiling where the music has some room to breathe, and from a listening position far enough back to hear 2nd and 3rd .Reflections to be taken into account. The speakers were also powered by an integrated McIntosh amplifier rated at 200 W/ch, a very stable, low impedance (4 ohms minimum) power supply for this load. While the Mac is a much more expensive design than what you'd typically expect from sub-$1,000 speaker terminals, it shows the truly great performance you can get from the C-3 and that the use of high-end Hardware with these speakers not doing this would be wasted money. A Google search will turn up a review of the Home Theater HiFi NHT C-3 which provides an excellent summary with measurements and specs. In summary, these are very attractive speakers with a pleasant, natural music reproduction that put up with much more expensive designs; The C-3 might be one of the best hi-fi deals out there!
