Great for a 2006 Mazda 6

Many years ago the only options I could find for a DIY AUX jack for a 2006 Mazda 6 were $300 iPod adapters. That's cool. I knew I didn't want the wires to be visible, so I was able to leave the 3.5mm cable in the glove box or seat side panel. It's great to find that this cable is long enough for both options. After installation I haven't heard any interference when using this port directly. (I've confirmed that my Bluetooth device is emitting interference, but that's another issue.) These inputs are standard on most cars these days. So that was most likely my first and only stereo hack for me. Here are my steps to install the automatic transmission: 1. Engage the parking brake.2. The key is in the on position, with the engine off, switch to drive mode. Turn the key off.3. Remove the shift knob by turning it counterclockwise.4. Tighten the shifter panel cover. The up-down approach worked for me. It was easier with the storage console open. The shifter console cover is opened and removed to reveal the shifter mechanism, exposed cover and some cables.5. Remove the two screws holding the front display and button panel. It requires some strength, but be careful not to fall off after solving it. There are still wires connected.6. With the front display and push button console to the side, the stereo slides out. Connect the cable to the back of the stereo using the driver's side access. I didn't even have to remove my stereo to connect the cable.7. Turn the key to the "On" position, shut off the engine and press the "Media" button.8. Test with audio device.9. Route the cable to the desired location and reassemble the consoles. The hardest part for me was routing the wire behind the other components, but it actually only took a few minutes to fish it out. I then routed it under the gear selector and into the storage console itself. A little flick of the razor blade to the bottom storage slot and I had enough room to fish out the 3.5mm jack there.

Cons
  • Good, but not great
