Leisure time is very important to me. That's why I don't write many reviews. However, from time to time I come across a product, company and/or service that is either such outstanding value or such a dismal disappointment that it is totally worth my time and effort to let potential buyers know about my personal experience . These balanced XLR cables from GLS fall into the first category. I was wary of buying these cables for use in my home theater system. I understand many people will buy these cables for microphone or studio use. For those of you who have AV gear with balanced XLR connectors, the insanely low cost of these cables shouldn't stop you from seriously considering using these cables in your system. I have a 7.2 home theater system consisting of a Marantz AV7701 preamp. , Emotiva monoblock amplifier and two powerful subwoofers. This has all been previously associated with unbalanced (very expensive) monster RCA connections. Just one of the nine RCA connections (that I used) costs more than all nine GLS-XLR cables combined. Since this rating is for a set of six, I obviously purchased additional GLS cables. There is nothing superfluous about these cables; They don't have exotic materials, they don't scream "expensive" at first glance, and they don't come in any fancy packaging (just a plastic bag with a sticky GLS label). The kit also includes two Velcro straps which came in handy for me. Likewise, there's nothing about the feel, construction, or look of these cables that would indicate poor quality control or "cheap" workmanship. Pulling on the cables gives the impression that they are firmly attached to the end connectors and will not break under normal conditions of use. The cable's rubber sheath is pliable (not rigid) and pulls well through a bunch of other cables. Although the XLR connectors are not gold or copper plated, they have a high quality finish (no rough or sharp edges) and match my amp and preamp plugs well. The trigger mechanism works smoothly as it should. My subjective impression is that the cables are of "good" quality. Now to the most important. how do they sound? I'm not an audiophile with golden ears. If you're hoping I'll comment on how more air there is in the upper mids, or how perceptible and structured the singer's breathing is, or how the upper registers feel a bit forward while the mids just hint at relaxation. while the base radiates more power. Well I have to disappoint you. What I can say with absolute certainty is that these 9 cables, which cost me less than Ben Franklin, sound every bit as good as the VERY expensive monster unbalanced RCA cables I've used in the past. Given the phenomenal value they represent I feel compelled to give them 5 stars for their value and I am very happy. If anything changes in my opinion over time, I'll be sure to post an update. For now, at this price point, I would highly recommend these GLS balanced XLR cables. ** As a side note, I would like to thank the user "flytheater" for their review. He uses almost identical AV gear as I do, which helped me decide to try these excellent cables.
