Review on Smooth and precise shaving experience with La Toja Shaving Stick by Dominique Robinson

My favorite razor stick

I have used several different razor sticks (Arko, Derby, Palmolive, this one) since I started wet shaving and my favorite is La Toja. The La Toja fragrance surpasses all others by a mile. It's not sharp and pungent like Derby or Arco, nor does it have that simple soapy smell you get from a Palmolive stick. La Toja smells of sandalwood with a hint of the sea - very pleasant and by no means too powdery/sweet. I find many similarities between the scent of this soap and that of Lea Classic, another excellent Spanish shaving soap. La Toja foams slightly. I tested it on my hand first (rubbing the wand directly against my palm to charge it) and was amazed at how the lather built up in my synthetic shaving brush once I started fluffing it up. La Toja didn't disappoint when it came time to lather my face - my stubble absorbed a lot of the soap and I got the same thick, rich lather as if I had lathered it with my hands. La Toja foams just as easily as Arko, which is known for its foaming power. Despite using gentle soaps and creams, I've had no trouble getting a great shave with La Toja. I'm totally annoyed and enjoying a nice close shave with this magic wand. This soap also has good moisturizing properties, especially considering the price. I could see the foam in my palm as I rinsed my hand off immediately after the first test. After my hands were dry, the one I applied the soap to was noticeably softer and smoother than my other hand. This was confirmed after the shave. My face feels great - not dry at all, even in the cool fall weather here in Michigan. While this is a small thing, I really like how the stick is packaged in a hard plastic tube for protection. The only thing that confuses me is that the soap stick keeps wanting to fall out of the plastic base when I put it on my skin. La Toja makes a great shaving soap that I'm sure most shavers will be happy with.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
