Review on Wilson Official Volleyball Yellow WTH00020ID by Dante Obong

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not very durable for outdoor volleyball

First of all, this ball was shipped out WAY overpriced. According to the instructions printed on the ball, it should be inflated to 2.5 to 3.2 psi. When I got mine it was rock solid so I tested it with two different instruments. Both registered over 5psi. No problem, I only deflated half the air until it was within spec. This is the third version of the AVP ball that I own and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. The official AVP ball has always been my favorite but I think its quality is declining. The first time I used my new ball was for a double header in a sand volleyball league. After two games, the ball had 12 spots where the black paint was completely worn down to the yellow underside. (This can be seen in the first 2 photos.) I am writing this review at the end of the season (now the ball is around 3 months old) and I can say with confidence that after one season this ball is more worn than my AVP II -Ball I used for 4 years before buying this new AVP Optx ball. (The 2 pictures with the previous version in the picture show how my Optx ball looks after one season compared to my previous ball at 4 years.) At the end of the season, not only is the ink worn out EVERYWHERE on the Optx ball. , but there are 11 spots where raw leather is visible and frayed. (See 5th close-up photo.) My 4 year old ball only has 2 of these spots. It looks like they lowered the quality on purpose to force you to buy another $65 ball every year. However, I will say this. The ball REALLY looks as high quality as previous versions. If you like old AVP balls, you will probably like this one too. They reproduced this feeling very consistently.
