Overall. my title speaks for itself. It does what you need, but no more. It plugs into my laptop, works with my standard USB ports, and charges or connects anything I need. In my experience, the USB-C port on the device doesn't support laptop charging very well. Communication is finicky and not very reliable. Also, and this is probably just a minor issue, the USB ports don't seem to be deep enough and the entire device feels flimsy when plugged in, making it seem like something is about to come loose and break. I've used it with HDMI and the connection is solid, but haven't tried reading the SD card yet. Looks nice when connected to the network, it's the same color as my Space Gray MBP and it's quite thin, easy to put in a backpack. All in all, this works well enough if you don't want to spend over $40 and need a device like this.
