Review on πŸ“± MX-890 Universal Remote Control by URC by Tiarik Gonzalez

Talk about misleading advertising

Two of these were installed by a home entertainment management service. They work great when they work, but over the years they regularly fail in one way or another, little things like a sudden lack of volume or something, so we have to call service back for a tune over $100 a visit, to solve the problem. because they handled it with their software. Then we lost one of the remote controls. Well, my husband and I are coders by trade, so in the end I decided we should find out for ourselves, especially since there are dozens of videos on YouTube that explain exactly how to do it. I bought it and it took a while to install, then I struggled because I couldn't find the software so I put it aside for a while and then finally spent a whole evening trying to figure it out and found that THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE ANYMORE. DO IT YOURSELF. They disabled the software, so all those online tutorials that explain exactly how to do it are useless. Now it's too late for me to return this worthless mechanism because it's been over 30 days since I bought it so I don't have $325 and I don't have a universal remote. I would like to point out that ANYWHERE on the product page does not indicate that I need to hire an outside service to program the remote. I programmed the server code for huge utility billing systems across the country. I think I can program the damn remote as long as you don't give up the software you need. I guess I can start saving so the network guys can come back and be in debt with them forever (nice maintenance fee, oh, at least $600 a year). , as we have 2 of these in the house and they both break down regularly), or I can just throw them in the trash and buy another remote that I can program myself. What a great choice to make. ***Edit - I have emailed this seller multiple times. Here's how it went after I explained the situation in an email through Revain that included all the information about my order: 9/12/17: I'm asked when I bought it. I replied immediately with the date of purchase. January 6, 2018 - I emailed again to resolve the issue. They replied asking for my order number which I will provide immediately. January 25th - I emailed again to ask permission, they never reply. I give up. I have attached a wonderful invoice that I received from our technicians for the installation which I believe will be repeated again and again for years to come if it needs reprogramming. Save thousands of dollars over the years - buy another remote control! And never from those yahoos.
