This hat is very soft and appears to be able to keep your head warm. I don't believe it will fit someone with a big head. I wear a 71/4 hat and it fits right on me. The face mask part on this hat is too small that is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. The ear flaps are long and clip on the bottom of your chin to stay on and the straps have alot of room for adjustment. I have not used it in the rain so I can't say about its water resistance but the material appears to be able to shed some water but I would not think it would keep your head dry in a downpour.
