Sturdy but requires "threads " to be cut to securely fasten

I have just returned from a 2 week multi-flight trip abroad. Luggage handles are rough and these tags hold up well. However, when I first decided to attach them to my luggage, I found them difficult to attach to the handles. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find a way to attach them to bags without cutting the 'cord'. However, this piece is long enough to be tied multiple times to keep it in your luggage. With a packable holdall that I forgot to buy a regular padlock for, I decided to take a chance. through the zip and pocket - as you can hopefully see in the photo with the purple tag. This method has survived 3 flights well - 2 overseas and 1 in the US. I like bright colors but if I had to do it all over again I would end up with something that didn't need to be "damaged" to attach to luggage. But I don't want to spend any more money, so I keep it to myself. I also wish they were all the same color.
