Review on ASTRO Gaming A40 TR Wired Headset with Astro Audio V2: Xbox Series X, S, One, PC & Mac by David Romero

Good but not for $149

I hear a lot of comments on the internet about this as "What the pros use". I seriously doubt it. What esports teams are using are very flat sounding headsets with boosted highs and NO bass for precise positioning and footstep detection. Google a photo of the inside of the race car. Now look at the inside of your car. Do you want to walk through Starbucks or pick up the kids in a race car with 50 buttons on the steering wheel and a roll cage? No, but that's what the "professionals" use. I mean, a headset can help you with Call of Duty, for example, but it doesn't. They have a very mid-bass sound that is pleasing to the ear and "good" to me. Not good. I have 5 other headphones that sound better than these. But good sound is subjective. I like slightly raised highs with warm mids and clear bass. Like a cinema. You may think this sounds awful or fantastic. But let me tell you they are not worth the money. I know everyone on YouTube says it's the best sound, but it's not. I have a pair of beyerdynamic headphones that sound similar and cost $80. With that $149 you get NO volume control. Mute on cable only. However, you can buy a new cable with built-in volume, but you will lose the sound. WTF? The cable is a proprietary 4-ring cable that only works with this headset. Why? You can also buy new panels for the ears and the top of the headband. And it's plastic too. Lots of plastic. This makes them brittle and worries me about their durability. They are comfortable and light enough but look a bit silly for my taste. The mic sounds good and there is a small mic monitoring measure that most headsets don't have. So if you just don't want "What the Pros Use" and say you have an Astro, then buy it. If you want a good headset with great sound, volume, and mute for less money, look elsewhere. They are there to sell accessories and nothing more in my opinion.
