Review on Primula TCP 2908 Coffee Press Plastic by Jason Matthews

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Delicious and easy to make - messy when cleaning up Heavy base

I've always wanted to use a french press for coffee and now I have. It makes a couple of cups of coffee very tasty. It tastes better than the same coffee brewed in a drip coffee maker, but not as good to me as the same coffee brewed in a coffee pot. I like that it's compact so the coffee maker doesn't take up much space. The cons for me are: 1) the coffee grounds are at the bottom of the cups, although I used coarsely ground coffee as instructed, and 2) the press pushes the coffee grounds to the bottom of the container which makes cleaning messy as it isn't easy is way to drain the area minus the extra water. French presses use coarse ground coffee for brewing coffee, not medium ground coffee used in drip coffee makers. The coffee is measured at the bottom of the press, which I did while the coffee was heating up. The instructions, which I think could be more detailed, say to pour hot water into the press. I brought the water to a boil and then gave it a few seconds to stop boiling and then poured in about 2 cups. (There are no measurements on the side of the container, so you just need to "measure by eye"). The instructions go into great detail about using a plastic spoon instead of a metal one to gently stir the coffee grounds. The top, which has the actual abdominal muscles, then comes on top. Wait 4 minutes (or so, depending on preference) before the abs begin to slowly descend. Then voila! There is coffee. To dispose of the grounds, I took the coffee filter out of the filter coffee maker and then poured the grounds in because it was too watery to just throw in the trash and I didn't want to pour the grounds down the drain. Also as a tip to protect the kitchen worktop from the heat of the hot water, I placed this coffee press on a small wooden cutting board. My rating is 4 stars because it is easy to use and makes very good french press quality coffee. Cleaning is a pain, however, as is loose soil at the bottom of the mug.
